As was mentioned in the introduction to Chinese numerology, while the original Lo Shu Grid is still in use in the far east, things are done slightly differently in western Chinese numerology. The original Lo Shu Grid is pictured below, and a picture of the version used in the West is directly below it for comparison. You can see that in the western version the numbers are in different positions within the grid.

The Western Version

Using the western Chinese numerology grid is fairly straightforward. You take the numbers from a person’s date of birth and place them within the grid. Any 1′s go in the bottom left square, and 2′s in the next square up, 3′s above that, etc. It is important to remember that not every square in a person’s grid will be filled since it is impossible to have every single number in your date of birth. You will also notice that there is no 0 in the grid. If a person’s date of birth contains a 0 it should be ignored and skipped over. Let’s do a couple examples so you can see how it works.

Example 1. For the first example, we will look at a person with a birthdate of 7/12/1972. The numbers from their date of birth would be place within the grid as follows:

9
22

11
77
    Example 1

Because there were no 3′s, 4′s, 5′s, 6′s or 8′s in the person’s date of birth those boxes of the grid are still empty.

Example 2. As another example, let’s look at a person with a birthdate of 4/16/1950. The numbers from their date of birth would be placed within the grid as follows:

6
9
 5
11
4
    Example 2

You’ll notice that we ignored the number 0 from this person’s year of birth since there is no space for a 0 within the grid. Additionally, because there were no 2′s, 3′s, 7′s or 8′s in their date of birth these boxes of the grid are still empty.
